Meet Patrizia: Your Bridge to the Italian Coast

Patrizia, born in Firenze (Florence), Tuscany, has spent years exploring Italy’s waters and trails. From kayaking through hidden coves and crystal bays to hiking across iconic landscapes like Elba Island, Portofino, and Cinque Terre, her life has been defined by a deep connection to the Italian outdoors.

This connection shapes the small-group kayak tours she now leads. Now based in Florida but returning to her roots for every expedition, Patrizia offers a unique bridge for international travelers. As an ACA-certified (American Canoe Association) instructor, she ensures every paddle stroke reveals a new perspective of Italy’s coastline. Intimate, adventurous, and unforgettable.

Her journeys go beyond the water. Patrizia delights in sharing the flavors of regional food and wine, and as a professional Italian language teacher, she brings guests closer to the poetry of her native tongue. With her, travelers do not just visit Italy. They taste it, feel it, and speak it, experiencing the country in a way that lingers long after the journey ends.

Leigh: Expert Guest Guide

Leigh, the founder of Tallbloke Adventures, is a long-time paddling partner and professional collaborator with Italy by Kayak. A fully qualified BCU (British Canoeing) Sea Kayak Guide with over 30 years of global experience, Leigh joins our Italian expeditions as a premier guest.

Throughout his career, Leigh has navigated some of the most challenging and beautiful waters worldwide, but he shares a specific passion for Italy’s coastline with Patrizia. Based in the United Kingdom's Lake District, he bridges the gap between rugged northern paddling and the "Slow Travel" philosophy of the Mediterranean.

For Leigh, every journey with Italy by Kayak is an opportunity to pair elite-level sea kayaking with the cultural richness of Italy, savoring the landscapes, food, and local stories that make every paddle truly special. His involvement ensures that guests benefit from a combined 50+ years of international safety standards and local Italian expertise.

Nello: Local Specialist & Elba Island Navigator

Nello is our premier local expert for the Tuscan Archipelago, bringing a lifetime of Mediterranean maritime knowledge to the Italy by Kayak team. Based in Firenze (Florence), Nello is a master of "Slow Travel" who finds his deepest connection to the sea along the rugged shores of Elba Island.

Known for his solo expeditions, Nello has circumnavigated Elba Island multiple times. His intimate understanding of the island’s changing moods, hidden coves, and secret bays makes him an invaluable asset.

His role within Italy by Kayak is to bridge the gap between adventure and "natural poetry." Whether navigating the complex granite coastlines of the Mediterranean or sharing his passion for Italy’s coastal heritage, Nello ensures that every journey is grounded in authentic local expertise and a deep respect for the sea.
