All the areas we will be paddling have their own distinct variety

in and out of stunning little coves, many of which will be
deserted apart from our party.
Distance will depend on the group’s ability and weather
conditions.
Dinner: Hotel
Night: Hotel

DAY 3. Transfer to Golfo di Orosei. Ispinigoli grotto

Buffet breakfast.
Transfer to the home region of Patrizia's mother. It's not just
the family connection that draws her back, it’s the Supramonte
beauty and its soaring limestone peaks and canyons which
skirt the Golfo di Orosei. The favourite area of outlaws in years
past.
After our lunch at the Hotel, which has been
mentioned in the best Italian food and wine guides, we will
visit the Ispinigoli grotto, featuring Europe’s second largest
stalactite stalagmite, approximately 38 metres high. The
enormous cavern astounds visitors with its symphony of
sinuous ‘chiaroscuro’, an experience not to be forgotten.
Dinner: Hotel
Night: Hotel

DAY 4. Kayak day. Cala Gonone to Cala Luna

Buffet breakfast.
Cala Luna, a long fine sandy beach with crowned grottos, is also in our plans on today's paddle before coming back to Cala Gonone for our well deserved relaxing evening at the hotel.
Dinner: Hotel
Night: Hotel

DAY 5. Breakfast with the Shepherd. Transfer to Maddalena

This is an early start for an in depth opportunity to discover
Sardinian culture. You’ll spend time with friendly, open people
who will tell you about their profession, and how they find it
extremely gratifying, even without breaks and holidays.
Tour of “Cuiles” (Old House Shepherd) and Bird Watching with
packed lunch.

After lunch we will be driving Northward along the coast, we enjoy a different
perspective of the beautiful blue sea, rolling hills, and ancient ruins. Even from a distance, it’s clear to see why this area is regarded as offering the best kayaking in the Mediterranean.
Conditions permitting, we’ll launch at Porto Rafael and paddle across to the island, disembarking at the town of La Maddalena itself, our base for the next two days.
Dinner: Local restaurant on the Island
Night: B&B

DAY 6. Kayak day. Maddalena

Often described as the 'Caribbean of the Mediterranean', offering islands, coves, beaches, cliffs, and superb restaurants.
All that one desires on a Sea Kayak trip, this place provides.
Today we’ll kayak the northwest coast of Isola Maddalena, stopping to swim at small beaches. Taking a short hike, we’ll have a view of the coastline, smaller islands of the archipelago, and the mountains of Corsica visible in the distance across the Bonifacio Strait. After wrapping up another great paddling day, we’ll return to the comfort of our B&B before dinner out in La Maddalena’s historic center.
Dinner: Local restaurant on the Island
Night: B&B

Day 7. Kayak day. Caprera

The reason the great Italian hero Garibaldi chose this as his home will be very apparent when you experience the sheer beauty of the island and it's surrounding area.
With crystal clear water, amazing rock formations, white sand beaches, Isola di Caprera epitomizes the best of the myriad of Sardinian kayaking destinations. Strategically significant for centuries, the island is dotted with fortresses – some ancient ,
some recent.

Is this trip right for me?

This journey is a sea kayaking expedition designed for beginner paddlers with a good level of finess, meaning able to paddle an average of 8 miles a day.

  • Novice paddlers with experience in a challenginb sea state
  • It’s a relaxed paddle tour, not a race
  • You will need to:
    • Be comfortable sitting in a kayak for a few hours and be confident  getting in and out of a sit in kayak
    • Be able to paddle at a steady, easy pace even with some waves
    • Follow basic safety instructions from the guide
    • Have a spirit of curiosity and enjoyment rather than competition

Over the duration of the trip, the sea may surprise us with unpleasant conditions and weather. We will have to change the itinerary and maybe going hiking and discover the Island from a different point of view.  It’s a challenge, yes, but  you’ll discover strength you didn’t know you had and finish feeling empowered, and unstoppable.

This is an active adventure, and we want you to feel at ease with what’s involved:

  • Expect to paddle 3-5 hours a day in a tandem sit in kayak, out on open sea conditions with waves up to 2 feet.
  • You’ll be in and out of the water, you will get your feet wet. It's very unlikely but possible to have an unexpected swim.
  • If swimming isn’t your comfort zone, please let us know and we’ll work with you.
  • A good level of fitness is important, especially since breezy days on the water can require quite a bit of extra effort.
  • Physical Rating: Moderate with some challenge, 3 to 5 hours of activity most days, an average of 8mi a day.
